Funded by a Kickstarter campaign, The 6502 is a historical documentary centering around the MOS Technology 6502 and its family of related chips, which were the beating heart of many of the best selling computers and technology of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Following in the footsteps of his previous documentaries BBS and GET LAMP, director Jason Scott has chosen a challenging but intriguing subject matter: the idea of what a CPU is, the art of assembly language programming, the unique nature of home computer technology at the time, and what the wonders of computer programming and use brought to a new generation.
Production began officially in winter of 2011, with the research phase into scores of possible interviewees, and is expected to go well into 2013.
